  • Local 776 job Fair
    Updated On: Aug 17, 2023

People Helping People; it’s what Local 776 does, not just words on the side of our truck. It is an ideal we practice daily. When the recent bankruptcy of Yellow Corp. and subsequent closing of the YRC and New Penn terminals was announced Local 776 immediately determined that a job fair was needed to help our Members regain a spot in the workforce and went to work to make it happen.

Employers currently under contract were contacted, as was the PA Dept. of Labor and Industry, and our attorneys who handle unemployment compensation and workers compensation claims; Jason Weinstock and Jack Dougherty from the Law Offices of Ira Weinstock. Additionally, representatives from the Central PA Teamsters Health and Welfare Fund were on hand to answer any questions pertaining to health insurance and pension. The job fair quickly came together and was scheduled for August 10, 2023.

A rainy day did not dampen the resolve of our affected Members as approximately 200 people attended to gather information and have any questions answered. The employers attending were:  ABF, Amsted Rail, Dauphin County Prison, Hershey Medical Center, Metals USA, Pacific Rail Services, Rabbit Transit, Ryder Logistics, Wilsbach Distribution, and York County Prison.

The line of members extended from the front door to the parking lot.

The employers provided information on the type of work they had available and in some cases took applications from members looking to start a new career. The PA Dept. of Labor and Industry provided information on the services they provide for displaced workers and the attorneys provided information from the unemployment and workers compensation areas affecting the members.

The meeting was so well attended by the affected Local 776 Members that the PA Dept. of Labor and Industry scheduled another session to meet with Members on August 17, 2023, from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Details on this meeting can be found in the post above.
